This position seeks to ensure excellence in patient care by effective supervision of resources coupled with a well-educated and motivated team of carers.

Requirements:

·      Registration with the NMBI

·      Minimum 5 years post registration nursing with minimum two years managerial/supervisory experience

·      Minimum 3years Theatre experience

·      Experience in Orthopedics desirable

 

Working Hours: The core working hours of attendance will be 37.5 hours per week. Your flexibility on hours of attendance in response to service needs and managements requirements will be a key element of this role. 

 

Location: You will be primarily based in Tralee, however you may be required to travel for business purposes within the Group and externally. Therefore you will be required to use your own car, in the performance of your duties.

Responsibilities – Administration:

 

  • To provide a safe working environment for all staff by ensuring that safety codes and procedures, as well as infection control polices are adhered to. 

 

  • To be aware of allocated Theatre budget and maintain adequate levels of supplies within the agreed budget. To ensure that all yearly capital expenditure requisitions are submitted on time when requested.

 

  • To work closely with multi-disciplinary teams within the hospital, to improve processes and practices and to identify areas for quality improvement with regard to maintaining JCI Accreditation and HIQA standards

 

  • To liaise with the Hospital Support Services Manager to maintain the required levels of hygiene as laid down in the guidelines of HACCP and complete audits.

 

  • To monitor and respond to staffing levels, according to patient dependency and activity on the ward.

 

  • To ensure duty rosters and annual leave arrangements are made in line with hospital protocol and in the best interest of patient care. All rostering and annual leave arrangements must be made in line with the Bon Secours Values of Equality and Fairness.

 

  • From time to time, to carry out duties when allocated on an equitable and fair basis as the Assistant Director/Director of Nursing deems appropriate to the post, including coverage of the Theatre Department when required once adequate orientation has been given.

 

  • To be aware of risks to patients and staff and to follow the correct hospital procedure (once appropriate training has been given) when reporting and documenting each incident, whilst being fully aware of the legal requirements and implications.

 

  • To perform tasks and duties in a manner that ensures compliance with relevant regulations, including the Blood Directive 2002/98/EC and the Medical Devices Directives 93/42/EC and 98/79/EC, where applicable.

 

  • To attend meetings as required once adequate notice has been given.

 

  • To be aware of the risks to patients and staff within the operating theatre department and to follow the correct hospital procedure for reporting and documenting each incident, whilst being fully aware of the legal requirements and implications.

 

  • To be an excellent communicator considering the wide variety of situations that may arise in the day-to-day management of a unit which requires competence in interpersonal skills.
