  So this is most likely the first time you have compiled a professional CV for your Nursing career but with KCIR’s help we can help you create a CV which will strengthen your chances of securing permanent placements. CV’s should be at a maximum of two pages. We have found in the past that many graduate applicants find it difficult to express their clinical knowledge and expertise onto paper. So by making your CV clear and concise you can show potential employers just how suited you are to their hospital. Our top tips for a good CV include:   Contact Details You would be surprised how often people forget to put their contact details on their CV. It is so important to include

• Name
• Home Telephone Number
• Mobile Telephone Number
• Home Address
• Email address
• Qualification
• Visa Status (where applicable)Potentials employers will have hundreds of CV’s on their desk- if your contact details are wrong they won’t chase you.

  Key Skills and Career Objective At KCR we love to read an ambitious CV. It is important for your key skills, key attributes and career objective to be clearly stated near the top of your CV. This description should be concise and to the point containing key words depending on your key attributes. Example of these key words are; Surgery, Midwifery, Psychiatric, Mental Health, Neonatal , General, etc. As a nursing graduate you might not have decided for definite which field is best suited for you so here is the place you can express all of your areas of interest.   Nursing Employment History We know that you are graduating in Autumn 2011 and may have no post registration experience but student nurse internships provide fundamental experience for you. Therefore it is vital to outline all of your relevant internships and nursing experience so that potential employers are interested in you as a nurse. Most new graduates have fantastic experience from working in major hospitals so don’t be afraid to mention the hospital’s name and what speciality you worked in. You should always include all of your nursing duties and responsibilities. This is an opportunity to reiterate your key skills. Don’t forget to include all of the key skills as mentioned above. These should be duties and responsibilities should be kept clear and concise in bullet format. If you have taken a year out to go travelling, or did an erasmus year be sure and highlight this. Gaps in CV’s can act as a deterrent for potential employers and this experience of being abroad is a great asset to have under your belt. There are many ways to showcase your experience but we believe at KCIR that reverse chronological order is the best as it shows exactly what role you are currently undertaking.   Qualifications Briefly outline in bullet format your qualifications including degree/ diploma and courses undertaken. Employers will be aware of the subjects undertaken and as there is little room on two pages for your CV this information can be kept for your application. If you are particularly interested in relocation abroad be sure and put down the level of education obtained. Nursing studies is not a Degree level in every country so this is important to highlight that you are a degree graduate. References Graduate Nurses should always have good professional and academic referees. While you may of had a student part time job over your four year course, it is better to use referees who have seen you in action as a healthcare professional, such as Ward Managers, CMN’s, ADON’s or DON or your senior lecturers in your college or University. Remember always ask your references prior to giving their name!
