Kate Cowhig International Healthcare Recruitment will be attending the following Career Fairs in the coming weeks:

18th of October at Institute of Technology, Tralee

10th of November at GMIT Mayo Campus

Italy

20th October Open Day at the Informagiovani Office of Ancona

26th October Career Day at University of Siena

Here are some top tips from KCR on how to succeed at Career Fairs.

1. Prepare

Get a list of participating companies and the list of job openings that each of these companies have. Work through the job openings that are of interest to you, prepare some questions that you would like answered and take this along with you so that you don’t lose track of why you are there along the way.

2. Dress Professionally.

First impressions are important. In most cases, you will want to dress professionally to attend a career fair. While campus attire is acceptable for fairs, you will probably be most comfortable if you at least dress in “business casual”.

3. Prioritize The Employers You’re Most Interested In.

If your schedule allows, you may find it easiest to start with the employers in which you’re less interested. This will allow you to hone your approach and to be most confident when you approach the employers you’re especially excited about. Be sure to balance this tip with the reality that you may have little time and that many other students may be interested in the same employers. Assume that you will need to wait to speak with some employers.

4. Introduce Yourself And Be Prepared To Give Your “Career Pitch”

Extend your hand, say “hello” and state your name. Welcome the representative. Be ready to talk about your career interests as well as academic and extracurricular experiences to show your skills and strengths. Make sure you remember to get the representatives email so you can send your CV to them later.

5. Take Notes.

As the representative at the fair may not be able to answer all of your questions or know specifics about your job interests, make sure that you write down the names, telephone numbers, etc. of other staff in the organization whom you can contact later. Note specific employer information sessions, on-campus interviewing and projected hiring dates that will affect you. You will not be able to take advantage of this information if you don’t record it.

6. Follow Up

Send a follow up email within 24 hours to each employer you talked to at the fair. Remind them of which position(s) you spoke about and stress your interest in scheduling a follow-up interview. Enclose a copy of your CV that will remind them of your skills and provide them with contact information.
